Corsica Sole creates a model of shed specially designed to meet the needs of farmers in Martinique.
With its unique expertise in off-grid photovoltaics, Corsica Sole aims to support all overseas territories in achieving energy independence. After building 18 agricultural hangars in Corsica, the company decided to set up operations in Martinique. With plenty of sunshine and rainfall to wash the panels, the island offers ideal conditions for solar energy.
In early 2018, Corsica Sole worked with Martinique farmers to design a photovoltaic shed model specifically adapted to local conditions. After first listening to their needs in terms of the dimensions of their machines (for example, for cutting sugar cane), the structure of the sheds was modified to meet cyclonic and seismic constraints. A 500 m² roof will enable them to provide the equivalent of the energy consumption of 40 households.
It’s a win-win solution. The farmer has an agricultural shed and Corsica Sole operates this power plant by selling the electricity produced to EDF. With this clean, carbon-free energy, Martinique is reducing the share of fossil fuels in its electricity consumption… and preserving its magnificent living environment.
