Corsica Sole inaugurates a solar power plant on an ARKEMA Seveso site in Saint-Auban

News

This is one of the first times in France that a solar power plant has been integrated into the heart of a Seveso-classified industrial site.

Michael COUDYSER, CEO of Corsica Sole, an innovative player in the photovoltaic sector, and Pascal MILLET, director of the Arkema plant in Saint-Auban, inaugurated a solar power plant at the heart of this plant, in the presence of René MASSETTE, President of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence Departmental Council.

A second life for degraded land

With a capacity of 10 MWp, its annual production will amount to 19 GWh. It covers 10 of the 51 hectares of the plant, which specializes in the production of solvents for the manufacture of fluorinated polymers.

The Saint-Auban power plant is unique in that it is located entirely within the perimeter of an active Seveso-classified industrial site.

Several industrial wastelands at the plant have thus been converted, with solar energy giving them a second life with an environmental purpose. These contaminated sites were previously used for solvent production workshops.

Seveso sites, a source of land for solar energy

The energy produced is mainly used for self-consumption on site to power the Arkema plant. This environmentally sensitive industrial site is thus becoming a vector for clean solutions, producing and consuming green energy.

More generally, this unique project shows that the use of Seveso sites opens up promising prospects for addressing the shortage of land in France for installing photovoltaic units.

A strategy of innovation and sustainable development

This power plant demonstrates Corsica Sole’s ability to provide new solutions to complex problems. Innovation is part of our DNA. We already demonstrated this by opening the first power plant with energy storage in Corsica in 2015 and by creating the world’s first solar parasol through our subsidiary DRIVECO in 2016.

This achievement is part of Arkema’s sustainable development and energy transition policy. That is why we supported the Corsica Sole project and actively participated in its implementation. We will also be responsible for its maintenance on behalf of Corsica Sole. We intend to build on this experience to implement renewable energy solutions at other Group sites.
