Corsica Sole strengthens its position as the leader in solar energy in Corsica
News
Following the latest call for tenders by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), Corsica Sole was awarded four projects with a total capacity of 4.3 MWp in Corsica.
The island-based company will build three power plants in the municipality of Linguizzetta (Haute-Corse) near Aléria. These three projects, totalling 4.3 MWp, will have a storage capacity of 6 MWh. Capable of supplying 4,500 inhabitants with green electricity for a year, they will also save 166 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Corsica Sole is thus strengthening its position as the leader in solar energy in Corsica by winning 60% of the power allocated there in this call for tenders. With these projects, by next year, the island-based company will be operating a total power of over 50 MW and a storage capacity of over 35 MWh in Corsica. After starting with agricultural sheds, it commissioned one of the world’s first power plants with energy storage in Alata, followed by power plants in Folelli, Aghione, Prunelli-di-Casaconi, Giuncaggio, Pancheraccia, Poggio-di-Venaco, and others.
We created Corsica Sole 10 years ago toenable Corsica to achieve energy independence. The current COVID-19 crisis and lockdown remind us how essential it is for Corsica to focus on renewable energies. Photovoltaics is a proven solution in terms of ecology, economics and operational safety, as we can operate our power plants without any interruption in production, regardless of external conditions.
Corsica Sole exports its technological expertise and has firmly established itself as a leading player in the solar energy sector in France, particularly in all non-interconnected areas (overseas departments and regions and Corsica).
These territories share the common characteristic of not being connected to a large external grid that can guarantee their electricity needs. Following this call for tenders, Corsica Sole is establishing itself for the first time in French Guiana and consolidating its position in Martinique with a 4 MWp power plant and in Réunion with a new rooftop power plant.
