DRIVECO inaugurates the world’s first Smart Solar Mobility Road

Connecting Bastia and Ajaccio, the route consists of two PARASOLS, smart solar-powered charging stations for all types of electric or rechargeable hybrid vehicles: cars, utility vehicles, scooters, buses, etc. The first PARASOL was commissioned on March 14, 2016, in Bastia. With the inauguration of a PARASOL in Ajaccio, we are opening the First Smart Solar Mobility Route between these two cities, in the presence of the President of the Executive Council, the President of ADEC, delegates from the European Commission, the President of CAPA, and representatives from the Ajaccio City Hall. From May 11, 2016, it will be possible to travel between Bastia and Ajaccio using 100% solar energy.

Born out of a desire to accelerate the energy transition by developing electric mobility that is clean and accessible to all, DRIVECO has designed and developed a cutting-edge technological innovation: the PARASOL.

The aesthetics of the DRIVECO PARASOL perfectly combine materials that showcase cutting-edge technology and renewable energies. This universal charging station produces its own energy thanks to its photovoltaic panels, stores it, and uses it to directly recharge all types of electric vehicles in a smart and controlled way, in all weather conditions, day and night.

PARASOLS operate as a network within the same territory thanks to the “DRIVECO Smart Grid,” an intelligent energy management system designed in partnership with teams from CEA Tech and INES. PARASOLS collaborate with each other and modulate the power injected into vehicles to ensure 100% solar charging at any time of day. Both autonomous and networked, PARASOL is a world first, the result of French expertise and innovation in sustainable mobility.

As the world’s first demonstrators of this technology, the ambition is to deploy a smart, solar-powered network of PARASOLS every 50 km across Corsica, enabling drivers to travel freely using solar power. Thanks to the support of the European Union, the Region, and our many Corsican partners, DRIVECO is inaugurating the world’s first Smart Solar Road between Bastia and Ajaccio.
