First hydrogen refuelling in Corsica

On 2 April 2025, Corsica took another step towards energy transition. For the first time, hydrogen refuelling took place on the island, thanks to the commitment of Corsica Sole. The Alba boat, from the Lycée Maritime de Bastia, was refuelled at the Old Port of Bastia.

A first in Corsica, made possible by local innovation

This operation was made possible by Clement’Hyne, a mobile hydrogen distribution station developed by Corsica Sole, in partnership with Europe Technologies. In addition, Corse Gaz provided transport for the cylinder frames, playing a key role in the success of the operation.

Green hydrogen at the heart of the maritime energy transition

This first practical use of hydrogen in the Corsican maritime sector marks a turning point. By the end of 2025, Corsica Sole will be producing green hydrogen from its solar power plant in Folelli. This energy will be 100% solar and 100% local, enabling Alba to be powered without emissions.

A new milestone for sustainable mobility in Corsica

With this first hydrogen refuelling in Corsica, Corsica Sole confirms its pioneering role in the development of renewable energies and carbon-free mobility. This initiative is fully in line with the island’s energy transition dynamic, focusing on clean, locally produced energy with no CO₂ emissions.
