Folell’Hy becomes a reality: construction begins on renewable hydrogen project in Corsica
The energy transition in Corsica has reached a new milestone with the official launch of construction work on Folell’Hy, our future renewable hydrogen production site in Folelli. This innovative project aims to convert surplus solar energy into green hydrogen, a major step forward for a more sustainable energy mix that is better suited to the specific characteristics of the island.
A key project for promoting renewable energy
At our Folelli solar power plant, electricity production sometimes exceeds the needs of the grid. This surplus, known as curtailment, is currently lost. Folell’Hy will provide a concrete solution: converting this excess energy into green hydrogen, a storable and reusable energy carrier.
This production site will thus enable:
Better integration of renewable energies into the local energy mix.
Optimised storage and redistribution of solar electricity.
A low-carbon alternative to fossil fuels for mobility and industry on the island.
Folell’Hy, a first milestone in a broader ambition
This project is part of a broader strategy led by Corsica Sole to develop a genuine renewable hydrogen sector in Corsica. With Alchymiste, supported by Bpifrance as part of France 2030, we are working to create a more resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem, where hydrogen plays a central role in decarbonising energy use.
A strong commitment to the region
By implementing innovative solutions such as Folell’Hy, we are actively contributing to:
- Reducing the island’s energy dependence and promoting energy self-sufficiency.
- Accelerating the transition to low-carbon solutions adapted to local constraints.
- Encouraging innovation and the development of new industrial sectors.
A project to watch closely
With the first sod turned on the site, Folell’Hy is becoming a reality. This project marks the beginning of a new era for renewable hydrogen in Corsica.
