Inauguration of the Campet-et-Lamolère photovoltaic power plant: A combination of energy innovation and heritage preservation

Corsica Sole has inaugurated the Campet-et-Lamolère photovoltaic power plant (Landes), an innovative project that combines low-carbon energy production with the preservation of historical heritage. Built on a 9.7-hectare site, the plant will generate 18.8 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 5,000 households. This project illustrates Corsica Sole’s commitment to the energy transition in France.
A sustainable project born from devastated land
This project is the result of a collaboration between Corsica Sole, the municipality of Campet-et-Lamolère and the family that owns the Château de Campet. After Storm Klaus in 2009, which devastated the surrounding land, the transformation of this site into a solar power plant offers a new purpose for this site formerly dedicated to forestry. The income generated by solar energy production will finance the maintenance and restoration of the château, a key element of the Landes region’s architectural heritage.
“This power plant is much more than an energy project. It embodies our desire to preserve our family heritage while embracing modernity,’ said Anne-Loraine de Pins, owner of the château.”
A strategic partnership with the steel industry
The Campet-et-Lamolère power plant also represents a major step forward in the energy transition thanks to the signing of a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with a leading steel manufacturer. This 20-year contract enables the steel company to secure its supply of renewable electricity at a stable price, while reducing its carbon footprint. This first for Corsica Sole demonstrates the growth in collaboration between the industrial sector and renewable energies.
A strong commitment to the environment and biodiversity
Corsica Sole has incorporated ambitious environmental measures into the design of this power plant. A reforestation project will offset the 9.7 hectares used for the power plant by planting 10 hectares of forest in the Pyrenees. In addition, environmental monitoring will be carried out throughout the site’s operation in order to preserve the ecological balance and local biodiversity.
A project rooted in local life
This achievement also contributes to local dynamism. Corsica Sole has developed an educational visit programme for local schools and residents, enabling them to discover the challenges of the energy transition and better understand how the power plant works. This initiative strengthens ties with the community while raising awareness among younger generations of the importance of renewable energy.
With this flagship project, Corsica Sole reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable energy future, while contributing to the preservation of heritage and respect for the environment.
