The rooftop photovoltaic power plant at Collège du 12e km, La Réunion
The solar power plant installed on the rooftop of Collège du 12e km, located in Le Tampon, La Réunion, is a flagship project within the public buildings solarisation programme led by the Departmental Council and operated by Corsica Sole.
Installed on the college rooftops in Le Tampon, this photovoltaic system forms an integral part of the ambitious college solarisation plan implemented by the Departmental Council of La Réunion, with Corsica Sole acting as the main operator.
A flagship project for the energy transition in La Réunion
The solar power plant, installed on the rooftop of Collège du 12e km in Le Tampon, has a capacity of 417 kWp. It will generate 600 MWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 85 residents of La Réunion, including air conditioning.
This project will help avoid approximately 400 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
The NégaWatt 974 energy plan
This project forms part of the energy strategy set out in the NégaWatt 974 Plan, adopted in 2019. Based on three pillars — energy sobriety, efficiency and local production — the plan aims to achieve a positive-energy local authority by 2030.
Energy sobriety, by limiting unnecessary consumption,
• Energy efficiency, by optimising energy use,
• Local renewable energy production, to move towards energy autonomy.
As a result, Collège du 12e km becomes a concrete example of a public educational establishment producing its own energy, actively contributing to the goal of a positive-energy territory by 2030.
An ambitious call for projects covering 33 establishments
This project is part of a call for projects launched in 2020 by the Departmental Council of La Réunion. As the successful bidder, Corsica Sole will equip 33 secondary schools across La Réunion with rooftop solar power plants between 2024 and 2027.
The objective is clear: to embed the local authority sustainably within a path towards energy autonomy.
Commissioning scheduled for the austral winter of 2025
The CDO rooftop solar installation is scheduled to be commissioned during the austral winter of 2025. Through this initiative, Corsica Sole reaffirms its commitment to the development of renewable energy in island territories, supporting local authorities in their energy transition.
This project reflects a desire to combine energy performance with educational leadership, by turning schools into drivers of the energy transition. By studying the photovoltaic power plants installed on school buildings, new vocations may emerge to help further green the island’s energy mix.
