Corsica Zoo rooftop power plants (Haute-Corse)

Located in the heart of the village of Olmeta di Tuda, in Haute-Corse, the roof of the Corsica Zoo agricultural hangar marks a new stage in the development of renewable energy at the local level.
The roof, with a capacity of 100 kWp, covers an area of 605 m² and houses 246 photovoltaic panels, fully integrated into the site’s architecture.
Each year, the roof produces around 150 MWh of electricity, equivalent to the consumption of 250 people, including heating, while avoiding nearly 200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
A structure designed to blend into the landscape
Designed to blend in with the village’s natural environment, the building features harmonious colours and a design that limits its visual impact.
The building was constructed with the aim of producing solar energy while respecting the landscape identity of the area.
As with any project, the choice of materials is crucial. The solar panels installed on the hangar are 95% recyclable at the end of their life. This is part of Corsica Sole’s commitment to ensuring that every project has a sustainable and complete life cycle.
A facility that serves the zoo and animal welfare
Beyond producing low-carbon electricity, the hangar plays an essential role in the daily running of the zoo. It provides:
- A covered space for storing maintenance equipment,
- A secure shelter for storing animal feed, protected from the elements,
- An overall improvement in the organisation and working comfort of the teams.
The structure also contributes directly to animal welfare by ensuring optimal food storage conditions throughout the year.
An educational screen is installed at the entrance to the site to inform visitors about its specific features, thereby reinforcing the educational dimension of the project and raising public awareness of energy and environmental issues.
An initiative that makes sense for the region
The project illustrates the desire to reconcile energy innovation, biodiversity preservation and support for local stakeholders. By choosing to equip a site dedicated to animal protection, Corsica Sole shows that a solar power plant can go beyond its technical function to become a concrete tool at the service of the region.
We are delighted to have a facility such as this agricultural hangar within the zoo. This installation allows us to work in better conditions while using clean energy. It also contributes to animal comfort through improved storage of equipment and feed. Whether for us, for the animals or for the environment, this hangar is a real asset. It encourages us to continue our commitment to wildlife protection
