Two major advances for our energy storage projects in Europe: Hertz 1 and Hertz 2 reach decisive milestones!

News

The Hertz 1 and Hertz 2 projects are reaching major milestones and confirming the momentum generated by Baltic Storage Platform in the development of large-scale energy storage solutions in Europe.

Hertz 1: from power-up to operational commissioning

After a successful power-up in October, carried out in collaboration with CONNECTO, ENERGEL and NIDEC, the teams continued their work until the facility was fully commissioned and began operating on the energy markets.

The injection and withdrawal tests carried out with NIDEC and ELERING confirmed what we expected: the facility maintains its charge, responds accurately and delivers the performance for which it was designed.

Capacity tests, also carried out by NIDEC, validated the stability of the asset across its entire operating range, marking a key milestone towards its sustainable and efficient operation.

In early 2026, the project will enter a new key phase with pre-qualifications for system services, with a view to further integration into European markets.

At the same time, Hertz 2 continues to ramp up. Civil engineering work has been completed; the high-voltage transformer, a key component of the system, has been delivered and commissioned; the HV control building is ready to house the equipment; and the battery containers and all high-voltage equipment have been delivered to the site.

Everything is now in place to move on to the next phase: energisation, scheduled for March 2026, an important milestone that will mark the project’s entry into its commissioning cycle.

A collective success for large-scale BESS projects

These advances illustrate the ongoing commitment of the teams and partners involved in these energy storage projects (BESS). They are the result of demanding coordination, shared expertise and the sustained involvement of all stakeholders.

A big thank you to everyone who contributes, every day, to the success of these projects that are shaping the European energy transition.
