A look back at the visit to the Giuncaggio solar and storage plant

News

On 25 September 2025, around thirty students from the PAOLI TECH engineering school visited the Giuncaggio solar power plant.

Accompanied by Alexandre Duflanc, project development manager at Corsica Sole, they learned how a hybrid power plant combining solar production and energy storage works.

An innovative power plant

Commissioned in 2019, the Giuncaggio solar power plant was the largest power plant with storage in Corsica.

Its characteristics illustrate the importance of this type of infrastructure in the energy transition:

5 MWp
Installed capacity
7,5 MWh
Storage capacity
4 000 people
supplied with electricity (*including heating)

Thanks to its battery system, the electricity produced during the day is stored and then redistributed at times of high consumption.

The power plant is also equipped with solar trackers, devices that orient the panels according to the sun’s path. This technology increases production by around 10%.

An educational site promoting the energy transition

Beyond its technical performance, the Giuncaggio solar power plant plays an important educational role.

It regularly welcomes visits from schools, colleges, high schools and universities. These visits enable younger generations to discover:

  • How a photovoltaic power plant with storage works
  • Innovations that optimise renewable energy production
  • The diversity of professions involved: engineers, maintenance technicians, network experts, project managers, support staff

The visit to the Giuncaggio solar power plant was therefore a wonderful opportunity for the Paoli Tech students. They were able to talk to a professional and gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.

By regularly opening its doors, Corsica Sole confirms its commitment. The company not only wants to develop renewable energies, but also to train and inspire the players of tomorrow.
