Another step forward for the largest battery park in continental Europe

Press releases

Corsica Sole, in partnership with Evecon and Mirova, has reached a key milestone in the construction of continental Europe’s largest battery park with the arrival of a giant 126-tonne transformer at the Kiisa site in Estonia. This impressive logistical operation marks a decisive step towards the commissioning of Hertz 1, scheduled for autumn 2025.

A strategic energy infrastructure for Europe

The Baltic Storage Platform, a joint venture between Evecon, Corsica Sole and Mirova, is developing this ambitious energy storage project in Harju County. With a total capacity of 100 MW and 200 MWh, this facility will play a key role in regulating grid frequency and strengthening energy security in the Baltic States.

The transformer, shipped from Turkey, is a key component of the system. Once filled with oil, it will weigh over 200 tonnes and measure nearly 10 metres high. With a power rating of 115 MVA and a voltage of 330/33 kV, it will ensure the efficient conversion of electricity for integration into the grid.

Large-scale European cooperation

The success of this project is based on close collaboration between several technical partners:

  • Connecto: construction of the high-voltage substation
  • Energel: transformer supplier
  • NIDEC: battery technology
  • WiSo Engineering: civil engineering and electrical work

To date, 39 of the 54 battery containers have already been delivered and are being installed. Each of these 41-tonne containers is equipped with advanced cooling, heating and fire safety systems.

Our partners and the entire team have done a remarkable job. Transporting a transformer weighing over 125 tonnes was a real logistical challenge, particularly due to the pressure exerted on the site’s underground infrastructure. I am delighted and grateful that everything went according to schedule. We can now look forward to the completion of the battery park with confidence

This type of project requires very early planning for the supply of equipment with long delivery times. The timely delivery of this key component is a real success for our teams and partners.
At Corsica Sole, we are committed to meeting the highest standards. Thanks to our collective expertise, we are helping to build a strategic energy infrastructure for Europe every day.

Michael Coudyser Founder and Managing Director of Corsica Sole

A first in Estonia

Key fact: the park’s substation will be the first in Estonia to connect to the transmission grid via a 330 kV AC underground cable.

This choice demonstrates the project’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
