Pupils from Sandreschi Primary School visit our Giuncaggio power plant

News

On Friday 17 May 2024, pupils from Sandreschi Primary School in Corte visited our solar power plant in Giuncaggio, located in Haute-Corse. Accompanied by Alexandre Duflanc, project development manager at Corsica Sole, they had the pleasure of discovering our power plant, how solar panels work and the specifics of the energy circuit. A look back at this day full of discoveries.

On this beautiful spring day, the primary school pupils had the opportunity to discover the Giuncaggio solar power plant. This facility, consisting of 12,000 solar panels spread over 7 hectares, has a production capacity of 5 MWp and a storage capacity of 7.5 MWh. Located on a former quarry, the plant is perfectly integrated into its environment, remaining invisible from the road while preserving biodiversity. The children were also able to admire different species of insects and flowers during their visit.

Accompanied by Alexandre Duflanc, who was on hand to answer all their questions, they were also surprised to discover that the solar panels at the Giuncaggio power plant work on the same principle as sunflowers! Mounted on trackers, the panels can follow the sun’s path. This optimises energy production, which is then either fed into the electricity grid or stored in batteries for redistribution as needed, an effective solution to compensate for the intermittency of renewable energies.

At the end of the day, the class teacher expressed her satisfaction:

My pupils are delighted because it allows them to put into practice what they have learnt in class throughout the year about the environment and renewable energies. It is important to teach pupils about environmental protection because this generation is our future.

This educational visit was organised in partnership with the Permanent Centre for Environmental Initiatives (CPIE Centre Corse) and the association ‘A Rinascita’. The ‘Renewable Energy’ educational programme is run by the Agency for Sustainable Urban Planning and Energy and funded by the Collectivité de Corse.
