Venaco rooftop power plants (Haute-Corse)

A photovoltaic power plant on a municipal building in Haute-Corse
The solar rooftop installation on a municipal hangar in Haute-Corse is an initiative led by the municipality of Venaco.
Located in a region strongly committed to the energy transition, this photovoltaic power plant forms part of a local sustainable development approach, with the active support of regional and local authorities.
The objective is to reconcile the production of green energy with the development of multi-purpose municipal infrastructure, serving the local population.
A flagship project for the energy transition in Corsica
The Venaco rooftop photovoltaic power plant has an installed capacity of 330 kWp, spread over a surface area of 1,856 m².
The municipal hangar will generate approximately 447 MWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 250 Corsican households, including heating.
The project will also help avoid the equivalent of 210 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
Thanks to this initiative, Corsica is taking a further step towards energy autonomy, while sustainably reducing its carbon emissions.
A community space serving both energy and local life
Located in the Vecchio Valley, this solar project in Haute-Corse is part of a broader approach combining energy transition and sustainable spatial planning. Beyond its environmental benefits, the project delivers tangible positive impacts for the local population.
The equipped building now hosts two tennis courts, a pétanque court and a multi-purpose space dedicated to local events.
Each year, it becomes a focal point for residents during A Fiera di u Casgiu, the renowned Corsican Cheese Fair, which attracts more than 10,000 visitors.
This multi-functional building strengthens the social, cultural and economic life of the village, while contributing to the territory’s energy autonomy through the integration of solar power generation on its roof.
A municipal hangar serving local life and solar energy
Fully designed, built and financed by Corsica Sole, the Venaco municipal hangar was donated to the municipality and constructed on land owned by the local authority.
This project illustrates a virtuous partnership model, in which solar energy directly supports the development of public infrastructure.
Designed to be versatile and sustainable, this photovoltaic-roofed building now accommodates a wide range of sporting and community activities: two tennis courts, a pétanque court, as well as a large covered area dedicated to gatherings and local events.
It provides residents with a modern, functional and sheltered facility, while producing renewable electricity every day that is fed into the island grid.
Thanks to this innovative approach, Venaco benefits from a dual-purpose community asset: a space open to all and a concrete tool supporting the energy transition of the territory.
A strong commitment to the environment
The Venaco solar rooftop installation reflects Corsica Sole’s strong environmental commitment.
The photovoltaic panels, 95% recyclable, ensure responsible management throughout their entire life cycle. The installation integrates seamlessly into the village landscape, illustrating the company’s determination to preserve local heritage while producing renewable energy.
Did you know?
The discovery of the photovoltaic effect dates back to 1839 in France, thanks to the work of Edmond Becquerel.
He was the first to observe that certain materials generate electricity when exposed to light. The term photovoltaic comes from the Greek phōtos, meaning “light”, and voltaic, in reference to Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, a pioneer of electricity.
The term therefore refers to the conversion of sunlight into electricity using solar panels.
The project dates back to the previous municipal term. Corsica Sole approached the municipality and the Mayor, Michel Mezzadri, to identify areas that could host solar panels. The stadium was immediately suggested. In addition to contributing to green energy production, the village will be able to make this site more attractive.”
